8. 1 , 6 : Great reflections on the Mets of the Stevie Wonder era from two full-time Mets fans. Thanks for those, ramblin' and mbtn01. I'm sure I would have looked at Steve Henderson in a different light had I been living and (as with the Seaver trade) dying with the Mets prior to his arrival. 7 : Yup, that's the Stevie Wonder who will endure. When my childhood effectively ended June the 15th 1977, I remember taking solace in the months to come that - Yes, Pat Zachary was a former Rookie-of-the-Year who could, in fact, possibly contend for the Cy Young Award in the years to come, and Yes, Doug Flynn would certainly learn at the knee of Buddy Harrelson, and pile up gold gloves throughout the '80s, and Yes, Steve Henderson was surely an All-Star in the making, he had almost batted .300, and he was young, and sort of fast and kind of had some power, right? and, maybe, maybe, he would help take back the headlines from the Yankees, and lead us back to the glory days, and we would become pennant contenders and Yes, maybe even win the Championship... And Yes, Virginia, Dan Norman could even conceivably be bound for Cooperstown.

4. The curse of the Seaver trade! It didn't do much for former Rookie of the Year Pat Zachary either.. Great conclusion to an interesting series. Any body out there know where I can get a copy of the Dock Ellis game/interview? It seems like an interesting way to spend an afternoon.

1. I would guess that blank expression of Henderson's is the result of having at last realized the colossal expectations that Met fans had placed upon him after being the main prize in the franchise-crippling, soul-crushing Tom Seaver trade. The 30th anniversary of that deal passed this summer and Henderson gave some interviews indicating that precisely was the case: He was so overwhelmed at just being in the big leagues the whole being-the-guy-traded-for-Tom-Seaver thing just whooshed over his head. Then it landed on him.
