That alone isn’t really an indicator of Wolfe’s ability as it appears that 1979 was basically open tryouts for catcher in Boston. Those who logged time at catcher for the ’79 Sox included: Carlton Fisk, Gary ‘Mugsy’ Allenson, Bob Montgomery, Mike O’Berry, Wolfe, and former ROY 2B Ted Sizemore (OK, so Sizemore actually had caught a couple of times for the ’76 Dodgers, also).
